Graduation Finger-Food Party Ideas
If you’re planning a graduation soiree, you likely want to supply your guests with good food. But doing so at a graduation party presents a small set of challenges. Often, there are guests of varying ages at graduation parties. You want to provide enough food to satisfy Grandpa and the little cousin. The best way to do this is to provide a variety of finger foods, all suitable for a graduation celebration.
-
Proteins
-
Proteins can be the biggest part of your food budget, but it’s important that you provide some proteins in your menu.
Offer grilled sausages to guests. To make them fit the theme, tie the middle of the sausages with a chive or other similar edible item so they look like diplomas.
You can also offer a tray of thinly sliced cheese and lunch meats. Use a graduation cap-shaped cookie cutter to cut the cheese and meats into that shape.
Fruits and Veggies
-
Offer a variety of fruits on skewers for easy eating. Make a sweet dip to go with the fruits. Have some fun with it and refuse to identify exactly what is in the dip. Call it the “dip of life,” because after all, in life as in your mystery dip, you never know what you’re going to get.
If you are creative with your paring knife, cut carrot rings to look like graduation caps or books. You might create little “diplomas” out of green onions, long carrots or bell pepper strips.
-
Sandwiches
-
Use the graduation cap cookie cutter to cut out small sandwiches. These are small enough to grab off a tray and enjoy out of hand. You can also make rolled sandwiches and tie them with the chive or other item like you might have done with the sausages.
Your sandwich ingredients might hint at your theme, too. Offer sandwiches that include jalapeno, because sometimes life is “too hot to handle,” or make sandwiches out of deviled ham because the job market is “devilish” sometimes.
Sweets
-
No party is complete without sweets. For your finger food feast, keep it simple with store-bought cupcakes featuring graduation toppers, or you can create some sweets of your own.
If you decide to do cupcakes, ice them in the colors of your guest of honor’s alma mater. Using a graduation-themed mold, you can create candy or chocolate lollipops for a sweet finish.
If your guests aren’t really into sweet things, get candy melts in school colors and melt them before dipping pretzel rods in them. You can embellish with candy sprinkles. The pretzel rods keep with the finger food theme while offering a sweet, yet salty, finish.
