LVNs must complete state-approved programs for licensure.

Licensed vocational nurses, also known as licensed practical nurses, care for patients under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses. Most LVNs work in a general hospital setting, but some work in specialized settings such as home healthcare. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, LVNs are required to complete state approved programs. Vocational schools and community colleges offer this kind of certification. A student in Dallas can choose from programs offered by either a community college or vocational schools.
