The Best Businesses for at-Home Moms
At-home moms have a few options when it comes to working from home. Some jobs might be hard to do at home while others might be perfectly suited to operating while kids are underfoot and dinner is on the stove. Suitable businesses can generally be broken down into a few different categories, each appealing in its own way.
-
Service Businesses
-
The service industry is a good one for at-home moms. Some of the businesses a mom might start within this category include pet sitting, errand running or party planning. Women who have been at home a number of years can tap into experiences they’ve gained being at home and can also operate a business that allows them to work when and how they like.
Care-Giving Services
-
Many at-home moms like to provide some kind of care-giving service within their business. That’s why it’s common for at-home moms to open home day cares and after-school care programs. But other excellent care-giving businesses can include elderly care and even small accredited preschools.
-
Internet-Based Businesses
-
One of the best businesses for at-home moms is an Internet-based business. These businesses can include things like writing services, Web design services and virtual assisting. Moms can run these businesses around their children’s schedules and yet still remain connected to the professional community.
One of the main advantages to an Internet-based business is the flexibility and privacy it offers. Moms can create a flexible schedule that works for them while also keeping the details of their family life private. That is, they don’t have to explain if work suffers because a child is sick; they can simply adapt their work to accommodate their family needs.
Sales Businesses
-
Many at-home moms start businesses that require selling items. Usually this is part of a multi-level marketing company, but often it’s a business that allows moms to sell products they make themselves. Sales businesses allow moms to utilize any sales techniques they might have from previous careers, or–in the case of the mom who sells items she makes–they might allow moms to be creative and make money doing it.
