Careers in any field related to visual arts are about creative and artistic expression through the physical sense of sight. Countless careers are available in visual arts. If you can create it and sell it, you can potentially make a career out of it. Most visual art careers are freelance jobs or self-employed businesses. Some of these careers include but are not limited to: sculptors, photographers, interior designers and cartoonists.

Sculptor

Sculptoring is a visual art field. Sculptors create artistic three-dimensional sculptures through materials such as clay, plastic, stone, metal, wood, ice or sand. Sculptors use a variety of tools to mold, carve, sculpt and weld their creations. Sculptors can work almost anywhere including at home, in a gallery, in a studio or outdoors. Since many sculptors are freelancers, they usually create their own schedules. Even though a bachelor's degree is not required, it might benefit those who want to be sculptors to attend college for an art degree. When starting out, sculptors may need to have another full-time job that is not in their field. To make a living they need to become employed through a gallery or create enough sculptures to sell to a market of customers.
Photographer

Photography is a visually artistic field. Photographers are visual artists who make a living by taking professional photos. Photographers may take several different types of photos for different reasons. Photographers take pictures for family portraits, weddings, events, fashion magazines, nature magazines, sporting events, fashion shows, food, crime scenes, medical records, scientific research, newspapers, advertisements or for artistic purposes. Photographers can work by themselves as freelancers or owners of their own studios or they can work for a studio or photography company. While there are no educational requirements to become a photographer, earning a bachelor's degree in art, photography, or design might make finding a job easier for someone who wants to pursue this career.

Interior Designer

Interior designers decorate and design rooms for residential homes and businesses. Interior designers decorate, design and plan rooms for residential houses or commercial, industrial or public buildings. This usually includes choosing items, colors and patterns for paint, wallpaper, pictures, paintings, sculptures, furniture, curtains, lights, floors, carpets, tiles and more. Interior designers meet with clients on a regular basis as a consultant in planning decorations and designs. Interior designers usually are required to have an associate degree through a vocational or technical college. Bachelor's degrees are not required but could be beneficial.
Cartoonist

Cartoonists draw and paint comics or animations for entertainment. Cartoonists usually work from home and submit their work to magazines, newspapers and websites. Though some cartoonists still use paper, pencil and paints, others use computer graphic software to design their comics. Cartoonists are not required to have any sort of background education. A bachelor's degree in art could open more career opportunities to someone who is looking into a career as a cartoonist.
