Maine Game Warden Requirements
A Maine game warden is a law enforcement officer who works in an assigned district. The district is located in areas where there is a concentration of hunting, fishing and trapping. The game warden enforces the laws as outlined by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. A game warden can expect to make $17.51 to $23.21 an hour as of 2010, as well as benefits such as health insurance and employee retirement fund.

Education

A game warden in Maine must have a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma (GED) before applying for the position. The applicant must attach a copy of the high school diploma or GED to the application before turning it in to the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Age

An individual must be 21 years of age before being eligible to apply for a game warden position in Maine. The exception to this rule is that the applicant must be 20 years of age and have received an associate's degree or college credits plus finished the ALERT exam at the police academy.

Physical Fitness

A physical fitness test (PFT) given by the Criminal Justice Academy must have been taken and passed within the year before the application for game warden is submitted to the department. This PFT is made up of three components such as timed push-ups, sit-ups and 1.5 mile run. The PFT is a pass or fail exam.
Driving

An applicant for game warden must have or be able to get a Maine driver's license rated as a Class C. This can be accomplished at any Department of Motor Vehicles office in Maine.
Location

A person wanting to be a game warden in Maine must be willing to move or be stationed anywhere in the state. The districts assigned to new game wardens are the ones that become available through loss of personnel either through retirement or reassignment.
