Highlighted Looks
-
Highlights and lowlights are generally used to add contrasting color shades to the hair. For example, one might get strips of blond or brown to accent the different shades in the hair. For a unique twist on this convention, try adding more vibrant colors to these highlights. Start by prepping the highlights as usual with bleach or a color-fixing solution. Consider using a highlighter cap to pull out your individual strands to be colored. Once that chemical has been washed, wet the hair and apply the color of your choice. Paint the individual strands of hair with a applicator brush and wrap the painted strands in foil to keep them from painting the other hairs. Highlight as many or as little areas as you want. Try highlighting areas towards the front of the scalp to frame the face.
Multi-Color
-
If just one hair color is not right for you, you might want to make a statement by adding color to multiple sections of your hair. For example, dyed tips are a fashion trend for those who prefer a more daring hair color choice. This look is achieved by sectioning off the hair that you want to color with a fine toothed comb and pulling it aside with a clip. Use an applicator brush to prep just the ends of the hair as you would if you were highlighting. Depending on how rich you want the color to be, the hair might have to lighten many shades to be able to hold the color. Once the bleaching agent is removed, color the hair with an applicator brush or dip the ends in a bowl of your chosen hair color. Allow the color to saturate fully before rinsing.

Outrageous Color Choices
-
The colors you use will be what will truly make your hair unique. If you like a punk rock look, you might be so bold as to incorporate reds, blues, greens or even oranges into your hair. Shades of yellow can help you achieve a unique shade of blond that is reminiscent of cartoon characters. Shades of pink or purple offer a feminine touch to the hair. Contrasting color shades, such as black and white, blue and orange, purple and yellow or red and green can make a strong statement in the hair.
