Academic Projects in Computer Science
In this technology-driven world, students must learn computer science skills. Incorporate academic projects into the computer science classroom by providing opportunities for students to complete research on historical figures or events for social studies, create multimedia presentations for any subject area and graph mathematical data.

Mathematics Projects
-
Intertwine math and computer science by allowing students to create surveys and collect data for graphing. Have students collect a list of one another's favorite colors, animals, cars, foods, school subjects or cars. After students have collected the data, they can use Microsoft Excel to create a bar graph or a double bar graph for comparison of the data if more than two classrooms are surveyed.
Students may also use an online source or newspaper to find weather statistics and patterns for their hometown the previous week. This data can be used to create a single line graph in Microsoft Excel. For an extension to this lesson, give students a list of five major cities and ask them to find the weather statistics and patterns to create a double line graph.
Social Studies Projects

Visit computerlabkids.com for links that contain relevant information on the Founding Fathers and their contributions to the formation and writing of our Constitution. To celebrate Constitution Day, have students create a multimedia presentation with PowerPoint or a movie with Movie Maker that contains relevant information about this major event in the history of our country.
Use the Internet as a resource tool to study a historical figure. Use Microsoft Publisher to create an informational flier or brochure about his or her life.

Science Projects
-
Visit sciencekids.co.nz to research science topics, such as animals, the solar system and the earth. Ask students to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create a game or quiz to use with the class. Games must contain interactive links that show the correct answer and whether the answer chosen was correct or incorrect. Students should use animation effects appropriately and list all resources used on the final slide. This reinforces concepts taught in the classroom and enhances computer science skills.
