Campgrounds in Southern Georgia
Spend some quality time in the great outdoors at southern Georgia campgrounds. You can enjoy a host of outdoor activities, organized events and area attractions, or take a side trip to the Museum of Aviation or Peach State Summer Theatre, while on a getaway to the area. Some of the campgrounds permit pets in camping areas, but animals must remain on-leash.

Little Ocmulgee State Park and Lodge

Little Ocmulgee State Park and Lodge, located just off Highway 441, is a haven for anglers and family travelers alike. The Oak Ridge Trail features more than two miles of wooded scenery as it weaves past oak and pine trees toward a viewing boardwalk. You can cruise around the 265-acre lake in a rental boat or fish along its banks. Little Ocmulgee State Park offers a resort-style atmosphere complete with an 18-hole golf course, pro shop, splash-pad water park, miniature golf, a restaurant, tennis courts and swimming beach. A visitor's center offers geocaching and outdoor programs year-round. Lodging options include 54 campsites, cottage and lodge rooms. The seven on-site picnic and group shelters can be reserved for group events. Attractions located less than 15 minutes from this southern Georgia campground include the Jefferson Davis Memorial Historic Site, Georgia Veterans State Par, SAM Shortline Excursion Train and Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park.

Sea Camp Cumberland Island Campgrounds

When you pitch a tent at the Sea Camp Cumberland Island Campgrounds, you can sleep under the stars at either a modern campground on in the wilderness campground area. The Sea Camp, located along the National Seashore in the center of Cumberland Island, offers more than five miles of hiking trails through freshwater preserves and wetlands. The Yankee Paradise nature area features more than seven miles of hiking trails. The Brickhill Bluff nature area, located along the Brickhill River, is a popular area for manatee- and dolphin-watching. Sea Camp features 16 campsites, each with a picnic table, charcoal grill, food cage and a fire ring. Attractions within a 15-minute drive include the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, Fort Frederica National Monument and the St. Marys Submarine Museum.

Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park

Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park offers 662 acres for outdoor exploration and enjoyment. The Brazell's Creek Golf Course is also located on-site, offering panoramic views of southern Georgia's Altamaha River and tall oak trees. Guests at both the campground and cottages have full access to the 12-acre lake and dock areas. You can rent both fishing and pedal-powered boats and spend an afternoon on the water. An observation deck over the beaver dams offers a chance to witness the native Georgia creatures building and playing in their natural environment. Amenities include geocaching, miniature golf, four picnic shelters and environmental programs. Gordonia-Alatamaha offers 29 tent sites and additional RV sites with sewage hookups. Attractions within a 15-minute drive include George L. Smith State Park, Fort Stewart Military Reservation and the Center for Wildlife Education. Cumberland Island amenities include fishing, a swimming beach, bicycle pathways and wildlife viewing areas.
