What Causes Pimples in Your Nose?

Pimples in the nose can be very painful.

A pimple can form in your nose for any number of reasons. When a pore inside the nose becomes irritated or infected, the result is often a painful pimple. Pimples inside the nose are difficult to treat because of their location and often can take several days to heal. Understanding what causes pimples to form in the nose can help you prevent them.

Blocked Pores

The nose is wet and moist, the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Bacteria can cause pimples inside the nose. Treating bacteria-borne pimples can be difficult because there's no way to change the environment inside the nose. You can clean the inside of your nostrils every day with a cotton swab dipped in a mild astringent to help breakdown bacteria and prevent pimples from forming.

Nose Picking

Sticking your finger or some other object in your nose can damage the sensitive nerve endings inside it. The common results of picking your nose are broken capillaries and scratches. Left untreated, they can become infected and form a painful pimple.

Hair Removal

Trimming nose hairs with scissors can cause tiny nicks that can become infected and form a pimple. If they aren't removed after a trim, trimmed hair follicles can get in the pores and cause an irritation that will form a pimple. These types of pimples are difficult to treat since the piece of hair follicle must be removed before healing can begin.

Irritants

Exposure to irritants in the air can also cause pimples. We often breathe chemical propellants, dust and debris into our nose on a daily basis. They are absorbed quickly by the cells inside the lining of the nose and can cause a pimple to form within hours of exposure.
