DUI instructors are a very reliable group of certified and trained individuals. They teach those who have been arrested for a DUI (driving under the influence) to understand the importance of safety and to discourage them from driving under the influence in the future.

Go to the Georgia Department of Services website to download the DUI Alcohol or Drug Risk Reduction Program Instructor Application (http://www.dds.ga.gov/docs/forms/DUINewInstructorapplication.pdf). Complete the application and apply to undergo a fingerprint background check by the Georgia Department of Services.

Prepare to submit a photograph of yourself and a notarized Consent for Background Investigation check (Form #RC-900).

Prepare to obtain and submit, if you have not lived in the state of Georgia more than five years, a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from the state in which you were licensed.

Prepare to submit an official college transcript, high school diploma or GED equivalent documentation to certify that you have had some form of education.

Prepare to submit an employment resume and a current job reference letter signed by your supervisor on company letterhead. Relevant work experience must be an undergraduate or graduate degree; or undergraduate degree in any accredited institution, and two years work experience working part-time or full-time as a counselor or trainer; or two years full-time work experience as a licensed or certified substance abuse counselor, including six months of experience in group counseling.

Tip

Submit the application and all pertinent documentation through Step 1 to 6 and mail it to the Georgia Department of Driver Services, Attention: Regulatory Compliance Division, 2206 Eat View Parkway, Conyers, GA 30016 and wait for approval of application. Once you are approved by the Department of Driver Services to attend the Prevention Research Institute (PRI) Course, you would have to pay a fee of $700. Make sure that you check on line periodically with the Department of Driver Services for application deadlines and training dates (www.dds.ga.gov).
