Canine scabies can easily transmit to other pets and people.

Canine scabies, also known as sarcoptic mange or "the itch", is a skin condition caused by a small microscopic parasite that burrows underneath the skin of your dog. Symptoms of scabies include hair loss, extreme itchiness, and blotchy skin. Handle scabies immediately to ensure your dog's quality of life and to prevent transmission to other pets and people. Fortunately, there are several home remedies available for your dog.

  1. Garlic

    • One of the most common natural home remedies used to fight parasites is garlic. Garlic fights fleas and repels the parasite that causes canine scabies. The easiest way to give garlic to your dog is to chop up a small amount in their food. Usually a single piece of garlic during every meal will be sufficient. Another added benefit of garlic is its antibiotic properties that help fight the inflammation associated with scabies.

    Wormwood

    • Wormwood is a plant that people have been using for centuries to help repel insects. The plant received its name as a deworming medicine for both dogs and people. Wormwood has beneficial scabies-fighting properties. The plant acts as a natural insecticide and is most effective if given to your dog as a tea. Just mix 8 oz. of wormwood leaves with 4 pts. of water and heat.

    Lemongrass

    • Lemongrass is another insecticide that is safe for dogs to consume. This natural home remedy has several benefits. First, lemongrass is highly effective at killing most parasites, including those that cause scabies. Its properties also soothe the skin to help relieve itching and promote the healing process. Place lemongrass or lemongrass extract directly in your dog's food.
