    • General psychology is the study of emotions, behaviors and the mind. Having a major in general psychology could open several career doors depending on how far a person goes in his education. To actually work in the field of general psychology, a person needs a graduate degree.

If a person chooses developmental psychology as a major, she will need a graduate degree.

An industrial and organizational psychologist helps increase work productivity by helping employees with their physical and mental health. If a person decides on a major in industrial and organizational psychology, he will need to achieve a graduate degree to work in industrial and organizational psychology.

    • Majors in clinical psychology are the most common majors in the field of psychology. According to the American Psychological Association, "A clinical psychologist helps assess, diagnose, treat, maintain and prevent mental disorders." For a person to become a clinical psychologist, he will need a graduate degree.

However, by graduate school a student needs to know what specific field she would like to major in.
