Students who want to major in family and marriage counseling will have to obtain a graduate degree to become a family and marriage counselor. A family and marriage counselor can counsel individuals, couples or families to help with issues or psychological disorders.

Students who want to major in industrial and organizational psychology will use psychological principles and theories to organizations. An industrial and organizational psychologist helps increase work productivity by helping employees with their physical and mental health. If a person decides on a major in industrial and organizational psychology, he will need to achieve a graduate degree to work in industrial and organizational psychology.

A Major in Clinical Psychology

Majors in clinical psychology are the most common majors in the field of psychology. According to the American Psychological Association, "A clinical psychologist helps assess, diagnose, treat, maintain and prevent mental disorders." For a person to become a clinical psychologist, he will need a graduate degree.

Subfields of Psychology Majors

Even if a student picks one of these majors, there are many subfields of psychology such as the following: health psychologist, sports psychology, forensic psychology, school psychology, biopsychology and personality psychology. If a person wants to major in psychology but is not sure of which specific field, general psychology is acceptable for undergraduate school. However, by graduate school a student needs to know what specific field she would like to major in.
