Types of Psoriasis conditions
Psoriasis is a skin condition that occurs when the skin cell life cycle is happening too fast. Everyone's skin cells die while our bodies create new ones. Usually, this cycle is not noticeable. However, when the process speeds up (as it does in psoriasis) it is noticeable. There are five different types of psoriasis. If you think you might have a type of psoriasis you should make an appointment with your doctor.
-
Plaque Psoriasis
-
More severe cases will need prescription steriod creams and oral medications According to the Mayo Clinic, plaque psoriasis is the most common type of psoriasis. The condition usually shows up on the elbows and knees, but can form anywhere on the body. The symptoms of plaque psoriasis include red, dry, itchy skin, raised lesions, and scaly patches. Mild cases can be treated with an over the counter cortisone cream.
Guttate Psoriasis
-
It can improve with the bacterial infection treatment, but might need prescription medication Guttate psoriasis is most often caused by a bacterial infection. It shows up as small drop-like spots. They usually show up on the neck, chest, arms, scalp, or legs. It can come on very quickly. It could just happen once, or could come and go. It might go away on its own, or need treatment.
-
Inverse Psoriasis
-
This type will need medical treatment with a prescription oral medication Inverse psoriasis appears in smooth, shiny red patches on the groin, armpits, under the knees, or under the breasts. This type of psoriasis is more common in those who are obese. It gets worse when there is friction. It can be sensitive to touch, but doesn't have the scaly lesions like the other types of psoriasis usually do.
Pustular Psoriasis
-
Pustular psoriasis will need prescription medication such as steroid creams or oral medication. This type of psoriasis usually occurs on the feet, hands or fingertips, but can appear in wider spaces. The skin becomes red and tender. Blisters will form within the same day (just a few hours) after the redness and tenderness starts. It can cause infections and light sensitivity.
Erythrodermic Psoriasis
-
To treat psoriasis, it is important to get treatment This type of psoriasis can cover your entire body with a red rash that peels, itches and burns. It could be caused by a sunburn, light sensitivity, a non-treated psoriasis, or particular medications. This will need immediate treatment as it can cause further illness such as severe dehydration, fever, infection, pneumonia, and even congestive heart failure.
