List of Engineering Universities in Pakistan

The Pakistan Engineering Council lists 59 engineering colleges and universities in Pakistan. Twenty of these are located in Punjab, 15 in Sindh, 11 in the Northwest Frontier Province, 10 in Islamabad, two in Balochistan and one in Azad Kashmir. Three of the larger, older engineering universities in Pakistan offer undergraduate and post-graduate degrees and various program choices.

  1. NED University of Engineering & Technology

    • NED University is a government-owned school that started with privately-donated funds in 1922. NED are the initials of Nadirshaw Edulji Dinshwa, a principal donor. The school’s transparent admission policy attracts many students, including foreigners, and it offers programs in 19 engineering disciplines, as well as one program each in architecture and information technology. It also offers 27 master’s programs. The university has liaisons with industries and public utilities, which helps its graduates obtain employment. The main campus has teaching and laboratory facilities, a library with more than 95,000 books, an air-conditioned auditorium for 600, a hostel for 200, a medical center, mosque, cafeteria, and sports facilities. Admission to undergraduate programs is based on one entry test for all disciplines. Post-graduate admission is based on exams in each discipline. The university gives importance to classroom and laboratory attendance, and does not permit political activities in the campus.

    University of Engineering & Technology Lahore

    • Established in 1921, the University of Engineering & Technology is the oldest engineering educational institution of Pakistan, with campuses in Lahore, Kala Shah Kaku, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala. The university has more than 700 faculty members, and an enrollment of almost 9,000 students, including 600 overseas students. This engineering university offers 29 undergraduate and 55 postgraduate programs. The majority of its Ph.D. faculty is foreign-trained. The university has research centers whose papers are often printed in international publications. The main campus is located in Lahore where, in addition to engineering, other programs in architecture, basic science and management are also offered. Undergraduate classes commence in October. Entry tests are held in August of each year.

    Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology

    • Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering & Technology (QUEST) dates back to when the Sindh University Engineering College Jamshoro was established in 1963. After some upgrades, name changes and campus moves, the original college of 1963 became QUEST in 1996. The campus is near the airport just outside Nawabshah, and includes department buildings and a residential colony for teachers, officers and other staff. The university has undergraduate and post-graduate programs. Academic departments include basic sciences and related studies, mathematics and statistics, and a number of fields in engineering such as civil, computer systems, electrical, electronic, energy and environment, mechanical, information technology, and computer science. Foreign students may be admitted, and financial assistance and scholarships are available.
