Degreaser Ingredients

Save

In order for a degreaser to be effective it must have the ability to cut through and in effect, erase grease. This action is known as emulsifying and it also breaks the grease down into components that are environmentally friendly. This allows them to be safely reabsorbed back into the Earth with no ill effects. With people being more Earth conscious, it is possible to find degreasers that are less caustic to both the environment and to people.

Sodium Tripolyphosphate

  • Sodium tripolyphosphate has a white crystal form, as it is a salt, and is used as a base for the degreaser and as a pH buffer. It is odorless and it is extremely water soluble. It helps the surfacants in the degreaser to work and it also repels dirt.

Sodium Meta Silicate

  • Sodium meta silicate is a very strong base that is used in degreasers. It helps to eliminate and break up fatty acids, oils and grease. It also acts as a water softener which helps the other ingredients in the degreaser to work better. This is defined as being a "builder" chemical, one that helps others to work.

Sodium Carbonate

  • Sodium carbonate is an irritant to human skin so care should be taken when handling the degreaser. This active ingredient helps to break down oil and grease. It is also a base and helps to soften water that will help to make the other ingredients work better.
