Roman Shades
-
Install Roman shades in bathroom windows for a soft, romantic look. With flowing fabric folds, Roman shades provide light control along with privacy. A cord mechanism pulls Roman shades up and down. Coordinate Roman shades with existing colors in the room such as the wall paint color or floor and bath tile color. A print fabric in a Roman shade combines colors present in towels and might also match a shower curtain or even wallpaper. Consider lining a Roman shade with blackout liner for the ultimate in privacy. Choose water-resistant fabric to resist wear and tear.
Woven Bamboo Shades
-
Woven bamboo shades add features like texture and variegated color to bathroom windows. Woven bamboo shades may be made from real bamboo or from woven vinyl made to look like bamboo. Either choice is suitable for bathroom windows, and will be resistant to water and damp surroundings. Mount bamboo woven shades in windows for partial privacy and some light control. Layer these shades under sheer white, cotton curtains for a casual yet elegant effect. Match the color of the shades to terra-cotta or slate tiles for cohesiveness.

Valances
-
Valances are sometimes called "toppers." This term refers to a simple curtain that appears almost like a ruffle added to a rod and hung at the very top of the window. Valances can vary in width anywhere from about 6 inches to over a foot. The more width the valance has, the more elegant it will appear to the eye. Trim ready-made or custom valances with braid, beads, pom-poms or fringe for a personalized effect. Ready-made valances are available at most mass retailers in standard window sizes and standard colors. While valances don't offer much in the way of privacy or light control, they are optimal for when you need a quick window solution, and may also be layered over existing curtains or drapes.
