What Are the Duties of an Administrative Executive?

Administrative Executives work as assistants to top executives or officers at major companies. They also are the top assistants at a company when there are a large number of assistants, managing these other workers, while still keeping up with all of their necessary administrative duties. Administrative executives make about $49,000 a year according to Salary.com, but this may also depend on the company you work for.

Administrative Duties

  • Administrative Executives must run an office efficiently and smoothly in an organized fashion. This entails organizing files in file cabinets or on computer servers, keeping accurate schedules for the top executives, setting and rescheduling meetings and answering and transferring phone calls efficiently. Administrative Executives are often some of the first ones to arrive in the office and last ones to leave.

Managerial Duties

  • Administrative Executives must also manage other assistants in the office to make sure they are staying on task and doing their jobs properly. They are responsible for all the office operations, so if assistants are slowing these operations down, it is the duty of the administrative assistant to make sure these other assistants continue to stay on task. This is where the executive portion of the job really comes into play, as employee hiring and firing decisions are made regularly by executive assistants.

Research and Business Understanding

  • Administrative Executives are often used to work on projects for the top company officials, organizing, researching and preparing documents for the top managers. This may entail researching specific laws or information about the business the company is involved in, compiling and printing large proposal packages for new projects or renting projectors, televisions or other pieces of equipment so that executives can make pitches or presentations to clients who they are doing business with.
