  1. Illinois Department of Revenue

    • Homeschool parents should be aware of a tax credit available exclusively to Illinois residents. The Illinois Department of Revenue issued a tax credit for expenses related to public, private and homeschooling. According to Publication 119 issued by the Illinois Department of Revenue, this credit is available for all educational expenses exceeding $250.00 per calendar year. This credit is separate from the Federal Tax Credit available for teachers employed by public and private schools.

Parents should keep receipts for educational expenses to qualify for this credit. Books, courses, craft materials, and other items are included in the tax credit. Forms are available online at the Illinois Department of Revenue.
