Penn State's Certificate in Hospitality Management covers a career working in hotels as well as restaurants, spas, country clubs and other institutions where guest services and relations are paramount. The program stresses the fact that hotel management is not a 9-to-5 job and prepares students with the skills and tools needed to advance their careers. Classes can be scheduled according to what's convenient for the student, and previously earned college credits can be transferred into the program on a case-by-case basis as well.

This well-established certificate program features a curriculum in hotel management as well as travel and tourism management. Undergraduate certificate programs are open to anyone with a high school diploma and some experience in the hotel or travel industry. Basic course requirements include Lodging Systems and Procedures, Marketing Strategy, Facilities Management and Financial Analysis. International students must score a minimum of 500 on a TOEFL exam to be considered. In addition, there is a graduate program in hospitality management for those who already have an undergraduate degree.

Cornell's certificate program was designed for students who are in the early stages of their hotel management career and wish to build a strong foundation of management concepts and skills that they can take into the workforce. Ferris State University

Ferris State's hotel management training program is designed to assist job seekers who either need to build the skills required for initial entry into the workforce or for those who need re-training because of an expansion of job responsibilities. Students must earn a minimum 2.0 grade point average from all certificate courses, and no more than 50 percent of credits required for the certificate may be transferred in from another institution. Required courses include Hospitality Law, Front Office Procedures/Accounting and Property-Facilities Management.
