Make a Christmas card that will stand out from the others.

Nobody wants to send out boring Christmas cards. Including a photo in a card always makes it more special, but most posed photos are forgettable. Get creative with your pictures and send a Christmas card that people will really enjoy and remember.

  1. Picture Collage

    • Make a collage of your entire year. Gather items that represent what your family did during the last year. Include vacation souvenirs, photos, awards and any other symbols of change in your life, your job or accomplishments. Add sports paraphernalia--if your kids are on a team--and memorabilia from any hobbies you have or fun events your family went to. Include ticket stubs, t-shirts or photos of that huge fish you caught. Group the items together and take a photograph. Either print the collage photo on your own card stock, or order professional prints. Under the picture, describe each item and what it means. This creative Christmas card photo idea gives your family and friends a summary of your whole year.

    Movie Fun

    • Dress like favorite characters from a Christmas movie. "Elf," "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas," "Christmas Vacation" and "A Christmas Story" are a few suggestions. The kids would look cute portraying Charlie Brown and his friends. There are endless possibilities. Once you have put together your outfits, pose outdoors or around the tree.

    Spell It Out

    • Take a picture of each child--or each family member--individually holding a sign that has one letter on it. Make the signs out of cardboard or construction paper, or print them out on your computer. The letters can spell Joy, Peace, Love or other Christmas words. Put the pictures together to form the message on the card.

    Tree Picture

    • When your family goes to pick out a fresh Christmas tree, have your camera ready. Take a picture capturing the excitement of finding a Christmas tree and showing everyone bundled up in hats and gloves.

    Candid Camera

    • Sometimes the best photos aren't posed. If you can't get your kids to do what you want, choose a picture that expresses their personalities and write a funny caption. If your infant is crying, go with it. If your kids are fighting, use that. A picture doesn't have to be perfect to convey personality and add something unique to your card. Include pets, let kids pose how they want or just take some shots of them playing out in the snow or decorating the tree.
