Dallas, the eighth-largest U.S. city, offers a range of educational opportunities for prospective nursing students. Educational institutions in Texas have their own criteria for admission, generally including a good grade point average and adequate transfer grades. Graduates of a nursing program can work in private and public hospitals, research facilities and laboratories, and government institutions. Dallas County has seven campuses offering various nursing programs.

      Texas Woman's University--College of Nursing

      • Texas Woman's University's College of Nursing in the Dallas-Parkland Center adjacent to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School is fully accredited by the Texas Board of Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Four hospitals surround the center, including Parkland Memorial Hospital and Children's Medical Center, and this centralized location offers nursing students a variety of choices for clinical experience venues. Programs the college offers include a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, a Master's Degree in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nursing Education. Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science program, students can take licensure examinations for professional practice. The four-year curriculum trains students to incorporate research into practice; collaborate with clients, families, health care providers and communities in the coordination of health care; think critically in difficult health care situations; and communicate effectively in professional nursing practice.

      Brookhaven College Nursing Program

      • Brookhaven College falls under the Dallas County Community College District and offers an Associate's Degree in Nursing which makes graduates eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, or the NCLEX-RN. The National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Texas Board of Nursing accredit the college's nursing program. The school's mission is to train students to communicate therapeutically with clients, families, peers and other professionals; demonstrate caring behavior and a holistic nursing approach; utilize critical thinking to provide competent nursing care; manage material and human resources in a cost-effective manner for individuals and their families; maintain accountability and professional responsibility for core nursing values and growth; and integrate the body of nursing knowledge to provide safe care.
