According to these ranking sources, the top-ranked schools in the Republic of Georgia are located in the capital city of Tbilisi and provide a variety of programs in scientific and technical fields of study.

Ilia State University

  • Ilia State University is the top-ranked university in the Republic of Georgia, according to the 2014 university Web ranking conducted by International Colleges & Universities and the 2014 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. Ilia State offers four different schools of study: arts and sciences, business, engineering and law. The university emphasizes research, with the highest research citation index in Georgia and 25 institutes and laboratories dedicated to research. Ilia State welcomes international students and provides classes in English and Russian through the International School for Caucasus Studies. International students must submit an application to both the National Center for Education Quality Enhancement of Georgia and the specific program of their choice within Ilia State to be considered for admission.

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University

  • Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is ranked No. 2 out of all Georgian universities by both International Colleges & Universities and the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. Also located in the capital of Tbilisi, it is less than a mile away from Ilia State University. Tbilisi State University offers six different faculties of study: exact and natural sciences, humanities, social and political sciences, economics and business, medicine and law. The university hosts collaborative programs with United States colleges such as Northeastern Illinois University and North Carolina State University. Language of instruction varies between English, Georgian, French and Russian, depending on the program of study.

Georgian Technical University

  • Georgian Technical University, located less than 3 miles north of Ilia State and Tbilisi State University, is ranked No. 3 out of Georgian universities by Webometrics Ranking of World Universities and No. 6 by International Colleges & Universities. Georgian Technical University offers courses within eight different fields of study: informatics and control systems, power engineering and telecommunications, mining and geology, chemical technology and metallurgy, transportation and mechanical engineering, architecture and urban planning, business engineering and civil engineering. Courses are conducted in English or Russian, depending on the program of study. International students must submit an application to the National Center for Education Quality Enhancement of Georgia, as well as transcripts and citizenship documents translated into Georgian.

International Black Sea University

  • International Black Sea University is ranked No. 5 out of Georgian universities by Webometrics Ranking of World Universities and No. 4 by International Colleges & Universities. It is less than 10 miles north of Ilia State University, Tbilisi State University and Georgian Technical University. The university is devoted to scientific, technical and professional studies and emphasizes pure and applied research. The language of instruction for all courses is English and Georgian. Schools of study include business management, social sciences, computer technologies and engineering, humanities and education. International students must submit an application form, passport or national identity card, any academic transcripts, criminal record report and health report to be considered for admission.
