The National Society for High School Scholars (NSHSS) is an international student organization that connects academically excellent high school students. Membership to NSHSS is by invitation only and requires that students be at least sophomores in high school and have at least a 3.5 grade point average. The Society offers many lucrative scholarships to its members and was founded in part by Claes Nobel, who remains the chairperson of the NSHAA Board of Directors.

      • The Claes Nobel Academic Scholarships are open to all NSHSS high school members except those related to NSHSS staff members or application reviewers. The $5,000 scholarships are awarded annually. The criteria for selection is based on a student's academics, activities, service and leadership. Following the November 30th deadline, 100 semi-finalists will be chosen from the initial applicant pool. Additional requirements must be fulfilled by semi-finalists, particularly a recommendation by an educator. Each $5,000 award is to be used for college tuition purposes.

      National Scholars Awards

      • National Scholar Awards are $1,000 scholarships awarded to finalists not chosen as recipients in the Claes Nobel Academic Scholarships competition. The application process is the same as the process for the Claes Nobel Academic Scholarships with a November 30th deadline.

      Robert P. Sheppard Leadership Award

      • The Robert P. Sheppard Leadership Award is granted annually to one NSHSS member that has shown a devotion to community service and volunteerism. This award is named for the former NSHSS vice-president, Bob Sheppard, that died unexpectedly at age 43 in 2004. The deadline for this award is February 15th.

      Academic Paper Awards

      • Academic Paper Awards are available to all NSHSS members interested in submitting academic papers written as part of a high school class assignment. Only analytic, research, or original essay papers will be accepted. The deadline for submissions is May 1st.

      Abercrombie & Fitch Global Diversity Scholar Awards

      • The Abercrombie & Fitch Global Diversity Scholar Awards are available in the amount of $1,000 to all NSHSS members for use towards college tuition. The deadline for applications is April 1st. There are also special Abercrombie & Fitch Global Diversity Scholar Awards available exclusively to students living in Japan and England. The deadline for applications for these awards is May 30th.
