Though doctors handle overall diagnosis and treatment for patients, nurses provide daily care and hourly medical procedures to maintain patient health. Nurses typically work in hospitals, with a few in doctor’s offices, health care services and nursing homes. Education can range from an approved nursing program to a master’s degree. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for nurses is expected to grow by 22 percent from 2008 to 2018, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.
