Job Responsibilities of a UPS Supervisor

As the largest package delivery company in the world, UPS needs a lot of talented supervisors to keep business running smoothly each day. Supervisor positions are available in more than 200 countries, covering everything from warehouse activities to office work. This creates countless available positions for professionals with a variety of different backgrounds.

Package Handling Supervisor

  • A package-handling supervisor monitors the work of drivers and package handlers to verify all work is completed in a timely manner. Excellent customer service skills, flexibility, the ability to multitask, general administrative abilities and reasoning skills are necessary to effectively hold the job. The ability to serve as a fair and effective leader is also a must for motivating and directing staff activities.

Operations Supervisor

  • An operations supervisor oversees customer service, productivity, quality, freight handling, claims prevention, load average and safety of dock, pick-up and delivery and road dispatch activities. She manages and schedules employees, is responsible for all loss prevention tactics, complies with all safety standards required by the company, ensures the department meets all set goals and works closely with central dispatch to efficiently move freight. Prior supervisory experience is preferred, but professionals must have a minimum education of a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen or authorized worker.

Truckload Supervisor

  • A truckload supervisor is responsible for managing a fleet of 15 to 40 onsite drivers and office personnel at a customer location. He is tasked with managing backhaul loads, light monthly financial analysis and reporting, customer rating and invoicing, managing all personnel issues, guaranteeing loads arrive on time to customers, managing equipment and helping the service center remain profitable. A professional holding this position must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be a U.S. citizen or authorized worker and at least 18 years old.

Commodity Supervisor

  • The commodity supervisor is responsible for all aspects of vendor management, including contract negotiation, drafting requests for information (RFIs), requests for proposals (RFPs) and other legal documents, and in-person meetings with external vendors, customers and suppliers. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in purchasing, graphic communications, business administration, materials management or a related discipline. Responsibilities also include acquiring business forms, thermal labels, standard products and other supply items needed by the company. A minimum of five years of procurement experience is required.
