At Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, the pre-med track functions more as a supplement to students' majors, rather than a standalone program. Called the Pre-Medical Professions Program, Duquesne's goal for aspiring medical students is to prepare them for a vast range of specialties in the medical field, which includes dentistry, optometry, podiatry, and chiropractic and veterinary medicine. Students interested in the university's pre-med track would need to take courses like biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, behavioral sciences and mathematics in addition to the coursework of their majors.
