Cocktail Waitress Duties & Responsibilities

Save

A cocktail waitress is a female server who works in a bar, nightclub or casino and provides service from the bar to the customer so that the customer does not have to get up to get a drink. Unlike a waitress at a restaurant, who takes food orders, a cocktail waitress generally exclusively handles beverage requests.

Take Drink Orders

  • A cocktail waitress must take the orders of the customers correctly, making sure to repeat the order verbatim to the bartender so as not to deliver the wrong order and have the bartender make the wrong drink. A good memory will help a cocktail waitress take drink orders from a few tables at once to save time and will open up the ability for the waitress to take more orders.

Clean Tables

  • A cocktail waitress cleans off the tables when customers are done using them so another group of customers can sit there. The cocktail waitress will use a towel to wipe condensation from drink glasses off the table. If there is a large spill or otherwise tough-to-clean-up mess, a cocktail waitress will usually get help from someone with janitorial responsibilities.

Money Handling

  • A cocktail waitress accepts payment for the drinks from the customers and takes it back to the cash register for change. As such, a cocktail waitress is responsible for remembering how much each drink costs and what kind of cocktail each person ordered so that she can deliver the correct change back to the table.

Friendliness

  • Since the cocktail waitress is the representative of the establishment for the customer, the cocktail waitress is responsible for being friendly and courteous to all customers.
