Without a touist visa, Mexicans may be unable to enter the United States.

The United States requires that visitors from Mexico apply for and receive a tourist visa before attempting to cross the U.S. border. The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City issues tourist visas to successful Mexican applicants. To receive a tourist visa to the United States, Mexican nationals must be prepared to give the details of their visit and departure from the United States.

  1. DS-160 Application Form

    • Applicants use the DS-160 Non-Immigrant Visa Application form to apply for a tourist visa. This form is available online as an electronic form. The electronic version of the form is the only version accepted at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico.

The DS-160 form contains information about the applicant's immigration and travel history, intended plans in the United States, financial support for the length of the visit and departure plans.

    Documentation

    • Applying for a U.S. tourist visa requires certain documentation. You must present a Mexican passport with at least six months of validity from the date of the interview for the visa to be issued. You will also need to present your Voting Card (IFE Card). Additional documentation that may be requested includes those to provide a reason to depart the United States: class schedules, rent or mortgage agreements, letters from your employers stating the date of expected return and utility bills. You may also be asked for information regarding travel arrangements such as hotel reservations and travel itineraries. Finally, you will be asked to submit proof from Banamex showing that you have paid the visa fee.

    Interview

    • The final requirement in obtaining a tourist visa is a face-to-face interview at the U.S. Embassy. This interview is scheduled through the Internet Visa Appointment Service or by calling the embassy at 1-900-849-4949.

During the interview, you will be asked questions regarding your travel plans, finances and motivation for returning to Mexico. If your answers satisfy the consular officer, you will hand over your passport, and the visa will be stamped into the pages. You can then enter the United States.
