ATV Trails Near Alma, Colorado
Alma, Colorado, is located about 60 miles southwest of Denver. The city is surrounded by four national forests: Arapaho, Pike, San Isabel and Gunnison. With all of the mountainous terrain present in these national forests, the Alma area offers a variety of all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trails. Most of the trails are operated by the national forests that surround Alma.

Birdseye Gulch Road

Birdseye Gulch Road begins in Leadville, about 10 miles from Alma in the Pike National Forest. The road is a 17-mile loop that will accommodate mountain bikes, ATVs, motorcycles and four-wheel-drive vehicles. The road has an elevation of almost 2,000 feet, so it covers some steep terrain. The road passes through places like Matchless Mine, Mosquito Pass and Buckeye Gulch until it ends off Highway 91 in Leadville. The Colorado Off Highway Vehicle Coalition rates Birdseye Gulch Road as difficult to navigate.

Breakneck Pass Road

Located near Sheep Ridge Park outside of Fairplay, Breakneck Pass Road is about 5 miles from Alma. The road covers 8 miles of terrain that only has a change in elevation of about 1,800 feet. The Colorado Off Highway Vehicle Coalition rates this road as rocky and moderate to navigate. The road, which is accessible from late spring to early fall, is located about 5 miles south of Fairplay off of County Road 5 and Forest Road 175.

Hackett Gulch Loop

Hackett Gulch Loop offers about 11 miles of off-road riding for ATVs about 20 miles from Alma toward Florissant. The loop only has a total elevation of 400 feet, but the Colorado Off Highway Vehicle Coalition rates it as being difficult to navigate and recommends it only for experienced riders and drivers. Hackett Gulch Loop is located off Cedar Mountain Road and County Road 3 near Florissant.
