Tips & Tricks for Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint is a software application that allows you to view, edit and make slide show presentations. PowerPoint is part of the Microsoft Office software package, along with Word and Excel. You can learn a few basic tips and tricks so that you can use PowerPoint efficiently and also effectively leverage PowerPoint to deliver professional presentations to any audience.
-
Custom Themes
-
You can create custom themes for your PowerPoint presentation to save time designing presentations. Themes allow you to define the colors, fonts and other visual effects. You can, for example, insert a company logo into a presentation. You can share themes with other PowerPoint users to support consistent slide show appearances throughout a company or group.
Images
-
Images often are not the desired size after you import them into the presentation. You can change the width and height of the image by dragging on the border. Pressing the "Shift" key while dragging the image border will force the image to maintain a consistent aspect ratio so that it not stretched or compressed. You can also quantitatively modify the width and height of the image directly by setting the height and width of an image in the properties of the image to a specific numeric value or percentage of the original size.

Design
-
Use large fonts on slides to help the audience members seated at a greater distance from the presentation read the text. Avoid using all capital letters for words on your presentations. Short brief phrases are effective, rather than long sentences and wordy paragraphs. Use simple, light-colored backgrounds that are appropriate for the audience.
Animation
-
PowerPoint has many built-in options for animation, which may help draw an audience member's attention to specific areas of a slide. Use simple animation when you transition from one slide to another and also prevent any unnecessary distractions.
Black Out-White Out
-
You can black out or white out the slide during your presentation to focus the audience's attention on the discussion. Press the "B" key to black out or "W" to white out the screen during a presentation.
