Audiologists are doctors who specialize in hearing, balance and other ear problems. Every state requires that audiologists be licensed by the health board in the state they practice. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition, "a master's degree in audiology (hearing) is the standard level of education required; however, a doctoral degree is becoming more common for new entrants."

  1. University of Pittsburgh

    • The University of Pittsburgh offers a doctoral degree in audiology and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Higher Education. The admissions requirements for the audiology program at the University of Pittsburgh include a baccalaureate degree, GPA of 3.0, official college transcripts and a personal essay. Additionally, applicants must submit three letters of recommendation, two of which must be from your previous college instructors. Financial aid is available to qualifying students.

    University of Iowa

    • The clinical doctorate program in audiology from the University of Iowa is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology. A bachelor's degree and a minimum GPA of 3.00 are mandatory to be considered in the program. University of Iowa Students will earn a clinical doctorate degree in audiology in seven years. Financial aid for eligible students is available through loans, grants and scholarships. Research and teaching assistantships are also available for a limited number of students.

    Arizona State University

    • The doctorate of audiology program at Arizona State University is accredited by the Council for Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Associated and takes four years to complete. Admission requirements include a bachelor's degree in speech, hearing or other communication discipline, official transcripts of all post-secondary education, GRE scores of at least 1,000, three letters of recommendation and a GPA of 3.00 or higher. Arizona State University also requires applicants to write a statement of 200 words detailing why they are interesting in pursuing a degree in audiology. Financial aid through the U.S. Department of Education is available to eligible students.
