Possible Careers With a Business Degree

Possible Careers With a Business Degree thumbnail
A business degree certainly helps sales representatives.

Instead of majoring in special business fields such as finance or accounting, many students take a more general business curriculum in college. Even marketing majors typically wait until after graduation to select a specific career. Whether you've been in the workforce for some time or are fresh out of college, your business degree opens a number of career doors.

  1. Sales Representative

    • Sales is one possible career for you. Many corporations look for employees with general business or marketing degrees. These degrees provide you with a basic understanding of business. Companies can then train you in their specific techniques for inside or outside sales positions.

    Marketing Research Analyst or Manager

    • Marketing research is another consideration. Entry-level positions include marketing analyst or managerial positions. Marketing research managers are involved more in hiring and managing employees and helping the marketing research director create budgets for the research department. As a marketing research analyst or manager, you'll typically design questionnaires, analyze survey results, write reports and present your findings to higher levels of management.

    Assistant Product Manager

    • An assistant product manager is another career possibility. As an assistant product manager, you'll work with product managers to market and promote a company's product line. Other duties that will draw from your business degree may include deciding the price for a new product or other methods to distribute existing products.

    Retail Management

    • You might also consider entering the retail management field. If it's an entry-level position, you'll likely start as an assistant manager. You'll hire and manage hourly employees, oversee merchandise orders, and implement promotions and advertising strategies to meet sales and profit targets.

    Restaurant Management

    • Restaurant management jobs, including fast food, mid-scale and casual dining facilities, are another option for you. Most restaurant management trainees start as assistant managers. Using skills gained through your business degree, you'll assist the general manager in overseeing employee training, running shifts and sometimes handling banking duties.

    Hospital Administration

    • Hospital administration is yet another career choice. As a hospital administrator, you'll use your business degree to oversee the various departments and facilities in hospitals, recruit and hire doctors, conduct employee evaluations, ensure the hospital keeps up with technology and adheres to government regulations.
