Homecoming Theme Ideas for Student Government
Students everywhere enjoy mixing and mingling at the annual homecoming celebration. Generally, student government officials plan these events. By selecting a creative and appropriate theme, you can turn your simple homecoming celebration into an exciting and memorable night that participants will fondly remember for years to come.
-
VIP Night
-
Make homecoming guests feel like full-fledged celebrities by throwing a VIP-themed homecoming. Design laminated backstage pass-style tickets to give to students as they pay for their homecoming tickets. Decorate the entrance with a red carpet and velvet rope. Ask teachers to volunteer to stand outside of the event and act as eager paparazzi, capturing shots of the guests as they arrive.
A Walk in the Clouds
-
Make homecoming night a dream with a Walk in the Clouds theme. Decorate the walls with blue paper, balloons and streamers so that homecoming attendees feel like they are getting a glimpse of the sky above the cloud's cover. Use white paper and cotton filling to create fluffy clouds at floor level. Select a cloud-themed homecoming favor, like a cloud-shaped stress ball, to give to guests.
-
Out of This World
-
Adopt a space-style decor by throwing an Out of This World homecoming event. Decorate the venue with shiny stars and paper-mache planets. Use plywood and paint to create a space scene featuring two astronauts and cut out the faces, allowing couples to stick their faces through the holes and take a playful photo. Give toy-spaceship favors to homecoming participants as a memento of the event.
Picture Me Having Fun
-
Use student photos as the inspiration for your event by throwing a Picture Me Having Fun homecoming. Partner with the yearbook committee, and gather an assortment of photos of students. Have some images enlarged into poster size at an area print shop. Scatter printed images all over the venue, hanging them on walls, placing them on tables and even suspending them from the ceiling. Give each guest a picture frame to keep as a homecoming souvenir.
Blast From the Past
-
Use homecoming as a time to venture back in time by throwing a Blast From the Past event. Select four distinctive decades, and assign one to each class. Tell freshmen to come dressed in 1950s sock-hop attire, sophomores in 1960s flower-child get-ups, juniors in disco-esque 1970s gear and seniors in rad 1980s fashions. Decorate by enlarging famous photos from each of the represented decades and hanging the images around the room. Offer a prize to the best costume from each decade to encourage creativity.
