There are a number of fighting tips and techniques.

There are a number of different tips and techniques to keep in mind when in a fight. The basic tips and techniques are important to know so that you can effectively protect yourself and win the fight. These tips and techniques can be applied to many different types of fighting.

  1. Land the First Punch

    • While you rarely if ever want to start a fight, if you know a fight is inevitable, it is important to land the first punch or blow so you can disorient your opponent and end the fight, hopefully before it begins. This tip is universal to most fights. The idea is to catch your opponent off guard and either be able to get away quickly, or immediately have the upper hand and pin your opponent or land more blows to beat him into submission. This is an effective strategy to use when you find yourself caught in a situation where fighting is the only option.

    Points to Hit

    • There are points on the human body that, if punched or kicked, can cause considerable pain, and can often put your opponent down on the ground and effectively end the fight, or at least give you a considerable advantage if the fight continues. The bridge of the nose is filled with nerves and rather soft, as it is not cartilage, so one good punch to that area of the face will break the nose, cause large amounts of bleeding and often end a fight. A hard hit to the chin can pinch a nerve and render someone unconscious. Punches or a hard kick to the groin, especially on a man, will usually be painful enough to bring an opponent to the ground. The knees and eyes are also vulnerable areas that can be punched, kicked or gouged, which can help end a fight quickly.

    Stay on Your Feet

    • If you happen to be hit while in the fight, or your opponent tries to pull you down to the ground, do everything you can to stay on your feet. You're much more vulnerable when you are on the ground than anywhere else, unless like a wrestler you are trained in fighting on your back or on your knees. Otherwise, your opponent usually has the upper hand, as you cannot move as quickly to avoid his attacks. Stay on your feet by moving around quickly and dodging your attacker's hits, picking your moment to strike, or at least trying to get away from the fight.
