Muralist

A muralist creates the setting for the room design. They may also paint outside on buildings and walls. They consult with the client about the image desired on the wall, create a mural design on paper, sign a contract, then create the mural on the wall. They may also paint furniture in the room to coordinate with the mural. A muralist must have a good eye for design, be able to draw realistically, and they must be a talented painter. They must also have good business and negotiation skills.
Faux Painter

Faux painted wall A faux painter paints walls using different techniques and multiple colors to create realistic looking textures and designs on walls and other surfaces. A faux painter can make plain walls look like the inside of a castle, or like brick walls. They can also make the walls look aged, or imitate wallpaper designs. A faux painter will grow his or her business by contacting interior designers and impressing them with his or her work and by doing a few sample walls in homes and business establishments around town.

Set Designer

Set Design Set designers work in the theater designing sets for plays. They may also create sets for TV and movies. They must be familiar with period-appropriate furniture and decor and be able to work closely with the production crew. It helps to be familiar with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. To get started in set design, contact local community theaters and volunteer your services. Take lots of pictures to build a portfolio.
