Standard Cards for Pass the King

Pass the King is a fun card game that nearly anyone can play. Best played with four players or more, this game involves some skill and a little chance. So next time you and family or friends are having a game night, try this hilarious game of guessing and betting to pass your time.

  1. Money Needed

    • Start with each player having four quarters for game play. For each round that players play, the loser, or losers if there is a tie, will put a quarter into the pot. Once you've lost all your quarters you get to play until you lose again, then you are out. The last person standing gets the pot at the end of the game.

    Dealing the Cards

    • Assign a dealer who will deal one card to each player. Your goal is to have the highest card at the end of the game, and cards range from aces being the lowest, then going up in the numbers to jack, queen and king.

    Card Switching

    • The person to the left of the dealer goes first and looks at their card. They decide if they want to switch cards with the person to their left or hold their card. The decision is based on the ranking of the card. For example, a low card, like two, would be good to switch, while a medium card, like eight or nine, could be a risk, and a high card like jack, queen or king would be good to keep. Players try to switch with the person to their left. They can refuse the switch.

    Going Around

    • Continue game play with each player viewing their card and deciding if they want to switch with the person to their left until play reaches the dealer. The dealer then decides whether they want to keep the card they've been given or switch with the top card on the deck.

    Finishing the Round

    • Once the dealer gets their card, everyone flips over their cards and the player, or players if there are two of the same, with the lowest card loses that round and puts a quarter in the pot. The next round starts with the person to the left of the dealer being the new dealer and continues until all but one player is out.
