Wedding Reception Photos

Cameras are not unfamiliar objects at wedding receptions. Photographers, as well as family and friends, constantly are trying to capture the occasion. While many couples hire professional photographers to shoot the entire reception, others choose less-traditional ways to document the event. Non-traditional ways of taking photos include renting a photo booth, buying disposable cameras and taking Polaroids.

  1. Photo Booths

    • As a candid, off-beat way of capturing photos, brides and grooms rent photo booths. Many companies now rent out booths specifically for wedding receptions. The couple can place the photo booth at a convenient location within the reception hall. Guests can take photos in the booth all night long. If the couple wants to keep the photos, they can place a cork board and pins onto a nearby wall and encourage guests to create a photo collage. This will provide the bride and groom with a memento of their special day. The couple also can allow guests to take their photos, sending them home with their own wedding memories.

    Disposable Cameras

    • Another way to incorporate candid photography into a wedding reception is by distributing disposable cameras. The bride and groom place the cameras on each table and encourage guests to take photos throughout the night. The guests leave the cameras (either on the table or in a designated basket) and the couple develop them--giving them a whole new view of their reception. When writing thank you cards, the couple can include an appropriate photo from the cameras.

    Instant Photos

    • Polaroids are a unique photo choice for wedding receptions. This method provides the bride and groom with instant memories. The couple can ask someone to take an instant photo of each couple or family as they arrive, as well as during the evening. The photographer should take down the name of each person after the photo is taken. Once the reception is over, the bride and groom can look over all of the photos. They can even send the photos of the guests with their thank you notes. By adding the Polaroid photos into the thank you notes, the bride and groom are letting the guests share a piece of their special day.
