High School Summer School Programs
High school summer programs stimulate advanced learning and creativity during the summer months. Some universities offer classes and programs for honors high school students. Some give college credits for attendance. This is an ideal way for a high school student to get a head start on college. Other programs are offered at local high schools, and community centers, but these programs generally are for fun or academic advancement , not college credit.

Some schools, such as The California State Summer School for the Arts in Valencia, offer creative classes that include dance, art and music. These classes are designed to inspire high school students to pursue the arts and other creative fields. Some schools offer college credits for participation. These classes are also an excellent opportunity for high school students who want to perfect their craft.

Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., offers a college summer program for high school students. This program is designed to help high school students get their feet wet in the college arena. Students have the opportunity to tour the campus and learn about college life. This program also allows high school students to earn college-level credits in several fields of study such as art, history or English. By the end of the summer they will become familiar with college-level material and understand the difference between high school and college.

Georgetown University also offers a summer journalism workshop for high school students who are interested in media careers. The workshop exposes students the world of journalism through media outlets such as newspapers and magazines. High school students are encouraged to develop their own voices and style through blogging and newspaper writing. Students are taken on field trips where they meet professional journalists.
