Glass Block Baby Craft Ideas

Most pregnant women experience a strong need to prepare their home for the new baby during a phase known as "nesting." Nesting may cause the expecting woman to clean her home extensively, sew clothing or blankets for the baby and to set up a room in her home as a cozy nursery for the baby to rest and later to play in. Create glass block craft projects to decorate your own baby's nursery or to give as a gift to an expectant mom.

  1. Night Light

    • Create a personalized night light for the baby's nursery to make middle of the night diaper changes easier. Purchase a glass block with a pre-drilled hole in the bottom.Cut letters out of vinyl using stencils, a craft knife and a cutting mat. You can also cut shapes that match the nursery decor. Peel the backing off of the vinyl letters and shapes and adhere them to one side of the glass block; it doesn't matter which side as long as your orient the letters and shapes so the hole in the block in on the bottom. Feed a 100-count strand of white Christmas lights through the hole in the block. Place the glass block on a shelf or table. Plug the strand of the lights in to turn the night light on.

    Photo Block

    • Create a decorative photo block that features a picture of the baby's family for the nursery. Purchase a glass block from a craft or hardware store. Measure your glass block's width and height. Cut a photograph to be 1 inch smaller in height and width than your glass block. Cut a piece of vinyl with the same height and width as your glass block. Peel the backing off of the your vinyl and place the picture in the center of the sticky side of the vinyl, with the picture side facing up. Place the photo on the glass block with the picture pressed against the glass so that the sticky border of vinyl around the photo attaches the picture to the block. Take two or three ribbons and tie them around the rim of the block in a decorative bow on the top of the block to finish the project.

    Keepsake Display

    • Create a decorative display with baby's keepsakes to display on a shelf in the nursery. Purchase a glass block with a large hole in the bottom; these glass blocks can be purchased at craft stores. Place small keepsakes from the baby, such as little booties and pacifiers, into the glass block through the hole. You can also add little items such as toy cars and small rattles to the inside of the block. Wrap decorative ribbon around the rim of the glass block and tie it in a decorative bow at the top of the block.
