Outdoor Spring Decorating Ideas

Use spring flowers as the focal point for outdoor spring decorating.

Spring has an amazing power to lift the spirit. Longer days, bright green buds and the promise of warmer weather to come shift everyone's focus back outdoors. Your outdoor spring decorating should highlight this natural renewal through abundant use of flowers and plants. Once you've accomplished that, it's time to renew and redecorate in other ways as well. Does this Spark an idea?

Spring Flowers

Massing spring flowers provides one of the most effective spring displays. Buy a large container, and plant it with tulips, daffodils or primroses very close together for a stunning effect. Surround the container with several small containers with different flowers. If you place the containers near your front door, plant some fragrant flowers like hyacinths or daphne so that you can brush them with your hand to release their scent every time you walk by. If your climate is already warm enough, you can hang a basket filled with draping fuchsias.

Spring Branches

Use branches with buds as well as branches with blossoms.

Trees with bright green buds or sparkling blossoms can play a prominent place in your outdoor spring décor. Use a tall, floor vase or a milk can to create a display of the branches on your porch or front yard. Hang Easter eggs from tree branches in your yard in the weeks leading up to Easter, or hang other signs of spring, like small decorative bird's nests or miniature birds and bird houses.

Bird Houses and Bird Nests

Bird houses can be decorative as well as functional.

In most parts of the country, robins and other songbirds return once spring arrives. Celebrate their return with an array of bird houses hanging from tree branches or sitting on your porch or fence post. Bird houses are available in charming painted versions or unpainted rustic versions to suit any outdoor décor. You can decorate your own by stenciling a flower or decorative border around the eaves and in the front of the house. Buy bird nests at craft stores, and fill them with colored wooden eggs to set on your porch railing or porch steps.

Renew and Refresh

Replace older flower pots with new ones or unique flower containers.

Take a look at all your outdoor decorations and replace those that are worn or just out of season. Buy a new doormat that welcomes spring with a flower motif, and wash off or replace existing flower pots. If you have a hanging banner that has become faded over time, replace it with one that has spring flowers. Repaint or recover any outdoor furniture ,or consider buying a new piece as a focal point for your porch or deck. Add other items as well to bring something new to your outdoor space, such as wind chimes, statues or a water fountain or pool.
