Reno senior centers offer many activities and programs to assist seniors in the community to achieve their goals and enhance their well-being. Their projects include direct and indirect social and health services, perks in sports and recreation endeavors, and community group benefits.

Washoe County Senior Services Center

The Washoe County Senior Services Center helps seniors to utilize resources in the community. The older adults are given updated information about housing, health, independent living and life planning. From Mondays to Fridays, they benefit from the nutrition education and free meals provided at the center. There is the option for home-delivered meals, as well. Recreational activities are regularly listed on the monthly Senior Connection Newsletter. There is also a list of affordable and income-based housing for seniors in the Reno/Sparks area.

City of Reno Senior Programs

The Reno government has programs such as the Senior Travelers, Senior Dance Club, Brunch and a Movie Club and the Sierra Nevada Senior Games. The Reno Senior Travelers program is for older adults who want to travel, enjoy the sights and meet new friends. The Reno Senior Dance Club holds monthly dance programs for the active seniors at the Neil Road Recreation Center. Once a month, registered seniors can enjoy a delicious brunch provided by a local buffet and then get free transportation ti watch a movie at a local theater. Every spring, the Sierra Nevada Senior Games, for people 50 and above, offers 19 different indoor and outdoor sports and events.

Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Senior Center

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Senior Center provides programs for the Paiute, Washoe and Shoshone elders (55 years or older) of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony and Hungry Valley. Services at the center include: free lunch every weekday at the center, with an option for homebound lunch delivery; social, cultural, safety and nutritional presentations; weekly blood pressure checks; transportation and referral services; commodity and food pantry delivery; paperwork and phone assistance; computer, internet and printer use; and monthly leisure and recreation activities, such as sewing classes, movies and bingo.
