Business majors will learn how to calculate, manage and organize.

A business major is an ideal degree for those who are strong communicators, efficient organizers, skilled computer workers and effective problem-solvers. The National Center for Education Statistics states that a business major was the most popular undergraduate degree in 2006-2007, with 328,000 degrees issued out of a total of 1,524,000. Business majors will be prepared for a wide range of positions and will study finances, marketing and management, among other subjects.

  1. Management Careers

    • "Management is one of the largest, most varied, and most interesting areas of work in the global economy," as noted at Careers-In-Business.com. A degree in business will be adequate for many entry-level management positions. Management career areas include entrepreneurship, human resources, general management, operations management, strategic planning and consulting, allowing for a wide range of career opportunities based on skill level and individual preference and personality.

    Accounting Careers

    • Accountants analyze financial data for individuals or companies, and may also help with budgets and taxes. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, many accountant positions only require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, and most business majors will take at least two to three accounting courses. As noted at Careers-in-Accounting.com, accounting jobs provide an insight into the "nuts and bolts" of businesses and corporations. Accounting jobs are ideal for those who enjoy crunching numbers and organizing data.

    Marketing Careers

    • A business degree is good initial preparation for a career in marketing. Marketing managers direct the promotion of a company's products and estimate supply and demand. Marketing researchers issue surveys and gather statistics and other data about what consumers want to see on the market. There are a variety of other marketing positions available to business majors, including sales representatives, director of public relations, marketing assistants and associates or promotions assistants.
