First Night Boston

First Night Boston is a collective city-wide celebration of the New Year. Events take place in over 30 different locations around the city, with all access admission available by purchasing a First Night Button. Events vary year to year, but common events include concerts, ice sculptures, dance performances and movies among many others. Beginning in late November, First Night buttons go on sale online and at various retail locations around Boston and Eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and Rhode Island. The First Night button not only allows access to events, but gives a discount before and after the New Year at several locations around Boston such as the Franklin Park Zoo and various city museums and restaurants. First Night sponsors two different fireworks displays. The first display commences at 7:00pm over Boston Common, ideal for families with younger children who may not stay awake to midnight. The second display begins at midnight over Boston Harbor.

Odyssey Cruise

Odyssey Cruises offers a New Year's Eve dinner cruise around the Boston Harbor which contains scenic views of the city skyline. The cruise boards at 8 p.m. and cruises from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The cruise includes a full dinner with hors d'oeuvres, appetizers, an entree, plated dessert and a midnight champagne toast. The cruise also has live entertainment and dancing with complimentary party favors for passengers. The highlight of the evening is the viewing of the Boston Harbor First Night fireworks display as passengers are treated to an unobstructed view of the display. Many city restaurants offer special prix fixe menus on New Year's Eve. Top of the Hub is a popular location to ring in the New Year. Located high on top of the Prudential Tower 52 stories above Boston, Top of the Hub contains 360 degree views of the city, ideal for viewing the two New Year's Eve fireworks displays. In addition to the special menu, live entertainment featuring jazz music plays in the restaurant lounge. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended.
