Top Master of Architecture Degree Colleges & Universities
Top-ranked architecture schools offer a variety of different master's degree programs. Students without an undergraduate architecture degree can enter specialized professional master of architecture programs at certain schools, while students who have already completed undergraduate architecture work can enter accelerated, post-professional master of architecture programs. Several top architecture schools also offer Master of Science (MS) degrees in architecture as well as joint-degree programs leading to two different master's degrees.

The architecture department at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design offers two master's degree programs. The professional Master in Architecture I program is designed for students who have completed a bachelor's degree in a field unrelated to design or architecture. All students in this program must complete a professional internship and pass a registration exam to qualify for professional architecture work after graduation. Harvard also offers the Master of Architecture II degree program, known as the post-professional track. This program is designed for students who have completed an undergraduate architecture degree. Master of Architecture II students must complete an independent thesis. According to the Architectural Record, DesignIntelligence ranked Harvard University first among graduate architecture schools in 2010.

Yale University

The Yale School of Architecture has traditions that date to the 19th century. The school now offers a variety of graduate degree programs, including two different master's programs. Like Harvard, Yale offers two separate masters track's, one designed for students who have completed an undergraduate architecture degree and one for students who completed bachelor's degrees in unrelated fields. The post-professional Master of Architecture program requires only two years, while the Master of Architecture program for students without an undergraduate architecture degree requires three years. Yale also offers a Master of Environmental Design (MED) degree program, as well as joint-degree programs leading toward the Master of Architecture degree and the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Environmental Design or Master of Environmental Management (MEM) degrees. According to the Architectural Record, DesignIntelligence ranked Yale University second among graduate architecture schools in 2010.

Columbia University

Columbia University has had an architecture program since 1881. The current architecture department within Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation offers several degree programs. Graduate students can work toward the Master of Architecture degree, the Master of Science (MS) in advanced architectural design or the Master of Science in critical, curatorial and conceptual practices in architecture. The architecture department's courses are divided into four primary areas: studio, history and theory, building technologies and visual studies. According to Architectural Record, DesignIntelligence ranked Columbia University third among graduate architecture schools in 2010.
