Simple Wood Crafts
Whether the weather is bad or you are running out of ideas for your children during the summer, woodcraft projects can help solve the issue along with adding some fun memories for your children. Children as young as four can build these projects with adult help.

Toy Boats
-
For centuries, children have been building wooden toy boats. These can be used on ponds and lakes. Cut a three-quarter-inch-thick piece of wood into a rectangle with a v at the top and a notch on the back. Cut a few quarter-inch-thick pieces of wood into rectangles with small notches. Glue the small rectangles together at the notches so one stands horizontal and one vertical. Paint the main portion of the boat. Slide the small rectangles along the middle of a rubber band and put the ends of the rubber band at the ends of the back of the main piece. Simply wind up the rectangles and the boat will start.
Business Card Holders
-
While children do not use business cards, this project will make great gifts for family and friends. You need wooden craft sticks, school glue, newspaper, craft paint and decorations.
Spread newspapers on the work surface. Break some of the craft sticks into quarters using the scissors. Glue full craft sticks together for the front and back. Use the quarter pieces vertically glued together for the sides. Paint and decorate as you wish.

Pumpkins
-
This Halloween craft is simple, using a block of wood found from scrap ends. Sand the wooden block to remove splinters and sharp ends. Paint the block orange with craft paint. Once dry, paint a face or other decorations on the block. To finish, hammer a nail into the top leaving at least half an inch sticking out. Paint the nail green. Add a ribbon to the nail if you want to hang the pumpkin.
