2002 Ford F150 Truck Recalls

The 2002 Ford F-150 offers the versatility of a truck with cargo hauling and towing capabilities. The F-150 also offers a car-like interior and some models even come with four doors. Four recalls for the F-150 have been issued since the 2002 models were sold. Any of the effected trucks can be taken to a Ford dealer's service department, where corrections to the truck will be made.

Headlight Assembly

  • Sabersport manufactured headlight assemblies for some 2002 Ford F-150s that do not conform with federal safety guidelines, specifically because they lack the amber lens on the side of the assembly. Without the amber lens, other drivers may not recognize the vehicle is signaling to turn, which could result in a crash.

Speed Control

  • Ford has issued a recall on all F-150s equipped with the optional speed control system. A defective deactivation switch for the speed control system can overheat, causing the switch to smoke and possibly start a vehicle fire. The speed control recall began in 2006, with Ford sending out letters to F-150 owners requesting they bring the truck into dealers for servicing.

  • On Ford F-150s equipped with a towing package, some of the lighting adaptors installed on the trucks were found to be defective. The defective adaptors can cause the stop lights and turn signals on trailers being towed by an F-150 to not function properly or at all, increasing the risk for a collision with vehicles traveling behind the F-150.

Fuel Filters

  • On some 2002 Ford F-150s, a defective fuel filter came installed on the truck. A problem with the connectors that attach the fuel filter to the fuel line can cause gasoline to leak out. The presence of gasoline in the engine bay of the F-150 can result in a vehicle fire, putting the occupants of the truck at risk of personal injury. The defective fuel filters were recalled in 2006.
