Jamaican Style Art

Jamaican art brims with vibrancy and color, and it also has international historical roots that follow renowned artistic traditions. Influences are as varied as those of the island nation itself, but African, Caribbean and native Rastafarian characteristics are prevalent. Many recognized artists have come from Jamaica using artistic mediums such as paint, sculpture and textiles. A visit to the island will give you the opportunity to collect locally produced items, many of which are refined works of art impressed with the characteristics of Jamaica itself. Jewelry, pottery, ceramics, paintings and clothes create a tapestry of work that reflects the heritage and creativity of the people. Ocean shells inspire and adorn pieces of jewelry. It is common to see the red, yellow and green of Jamaica's flag represented in art, and the red clay and wood of the island distinguishes glazed pottery and wood carvings.
