The Behavior Analyst Certification Board is the nonprofit corporation responsible for issuing the board certified credential to behavior analysts. To qualify, students must attend a BACB-approved degree program and pass the exam administered by Pearson VUE. These top programs differ in their curriculum and approach, offering a wide variety to suit your learning style and schedule.

Northeastern University

  • Northeastern offers a degree in applied behavior analysis in cooperation with the May Institute of Randolph, Mass. The May Institute, a behavior education, health care and rehabilitation organization established more than a half-century ago, uses the program to train many of its own staff members and those of other organizations. The curriculum is designed for completion in a three-year time frame with part-time attendance. Students are employed full-time in an education or human service setting and have hands-on contact with developmentally disabled persons throughout the program. Students will complete the program with a master of science in applied behavior analysis with the qualification to sit for the exam to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

Simmons College of Arts and Sciences

  • Simmons College of Arts and Sciences is the annual host of the Contemporary Developments in Behavior Analysis conference and was recognized by U.S. News & World Report on its 2010 list of America's best colleges. The 11-course, 52-credit master’s program in behavioral education qualifies students to sit for the BCBA exam and can be completed in as little two years with full-time attendance. Students will work on collaborative research projects to be published in professional journals and presented at conferences nationally. The college also offers a doctoral program in applied behavior analysis.

UMass Lowell

  • The Behavioral Intervention in Autism program at the University of Massachusetts/Lowell was recognized by the Sloan Foundation for higher education excellence in 2008 with the Sloan-C Award for the most outstanding online teaching and learning program. The program is a collaboration of UMass Lowell's department of psychology and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center. One of just a few in the U.S., the five-course program is available 100 percent in online format and accredited by the BACB. The courses were designed by a panel of behavior analysts and structured in a concise format to maximize learning while maintaining the convenience of the online structure. It is designed for professionals in psychology, child care, education, language and speech disorders, mental health and human services. Students successfully completing the course will receive a master's certificate in behavioral intervention in autism and will be eligible to sit for the BCBA exam.
