Accredited Caribbean Medical Schools

There are over 20 medical schools in the Caribbean. Premed students choose to apply to these schools rather than universities in the United States for a variety of reasons. However, not all Caribbean medical schools are accredited institutions. Even so, there are schools in the region approved by the U.S. Department of Education and the World Health Organization.

St. George's University

  • St. George's University on the island nation of Grenada is the most prestigious medical school in the Caribbean. It is the oldest private school of medicine in the region and is a pioneer in international medical education. It was the first non-U.S. medical school to obtain approval to conduct medical training in New York and New Jersey. Students have the opportunity to complete their clinical training at over 70 affiliated hospitals in the United States. The school offers several dual-degree programs. Students can combine study for a Master of Public Health or a Master of Science along with their medical education. Undergraduates can also apply for a Bachelor of Science/MD program. The school has state-of-the-art facilities, and the campus is made up of Spanish-style buildings on a cliff next to the ocean.
