Marketing ideas are spurned by facts or truths, which are well-known in popular culture and can then relate to a product or event, making people want to buy an item or attend an event. The month of July has a number of differently themed days, with a prime season around which marketing campaigns or slogans can be built.
4th of July: Red, White & Blue and Independence
The red, white and blue independence day colors and the spirit of the day itself leads to numerous different marketing ideas. Different aspects of a product or company can be related to the red, white and blue colors associated with America's Independence and Independence Day celebration. Take a clothing retailer like the Gap, for example. Red, white and blue colors of summertime clothes represent having the freedom to look attractive and be independent, paralleling perfectly with independence day.
Traditional fireworks shows on the 4th of July also conveys how the idea of fireworks themselves can relate to a variety of brands, which may, metaphorically, make you see fireworks or help you to celebrate your freedom, through products ranging from dating websites to brands of beer. Using fireworks in a campaign around the 4th of July will clearly convey a parallel between these explosions in the sky and the feeling you get when using a certain product or service.
Summertime: Heat and BBQs
July is also known as the beginning of the real summer heat, drawing hot bodies outside to tan in the sun, sweating and thirsting for something cool. Beer and other drinks, which can be marketed to represent a cool and refreshing feelings, are perfect products for July marketing. Take Budweiser beer with lime, for example, as the zesty lime taste is refreshing and cool, as well as reminding consumers of being in the tropics. Deodorant is another good product to market at this time of year, as this will keep people from smelling as they sweat, promoting being attractive even in inclement temperatures. Heat, sweat and skin all have sexual undertones as well, adding a certain sex appeal to most products marketed in this setting.
Cell Phone Courtesy Month
July is known as Cell Phone Courtesy Month, and with this fact, an entire marketing campaign can be built around people being courteous with their cell phones. With as many cell phone companies as there are out there constantly pushing phones and phone service, a number of funny commercials, print ads or general marketing elements promoting courteous cell phone use can be widely spread. Verizon could offer cell phone courtesy quizzes can be distributed to a cell phone carrier's customers, awarding extra free minutes to everyone who passes the courtesy test. AT&T could present a random set of "cell phone courtesy rules" in bizarre situations, which would be both humorous and educational at the same time.
